Luxury pendant/brooch: “The Mask”

The combination of different styles is something that has always fascinated me, giving a double or more meanings to a jewel makes it unique and interesting, this is the case of this pendant/brooch, the mask subject, carved on pink coral from the Pacific Ocean depicts a mask that recalls the carnival figures but in particular the face of Pulcinella, icon of the Neapolitan city.
It is therefore a jewel with a clear reference to a Mediterranean style, the theme of farce linked to the mask is further accentuated by the ornamental part in white gold, which due to its shape recalls the headdress of a jester and another style is introduced of workmanship, the metal worked in tulle thanks to the fretwork technique, that imitation of the textures of a fabric that were so fashionable from the mid-1800s onwards.
A mask with different aspects, as it should be… A jewel that crosses different places and styles…

The jewel, made of white gold, combines materials of different origins, another example of union between sea and land, a pink shell and a precious black Tahiti pearl are in fact set through a refined frame of the noble metal,
further adorned by the presence of some small blue diamonds.
The pink element is precisely the heart of the Caribbean shell from which it was made, a soft and delicate shade that holds the natural jewel that comes from the sea, a beautiful black pearl from Polynesia. The gold frame follows a soft and sinuous line like a delicate wave that wraps and embeds the shell, the blue diamonds create small luminous points of that intense color which further contributes to evoking the thalassic environment.

The ring was made inspired by a particular shape of pasta. By observing even the simple things that are part of our daily life, it is possible to have ideas to reinterpret in one’s work, this is the case of the “Vortice Marino” ring.
